Mirchi Vada, or Mirchi Bhaji, is a popular Rajasthani snack. This dish of green chilies filled with spicy potatoes, dipped in batter and fried, makes a mouthwatering snack for people who love hot, spicy food.
If you don’t want spicy Mirchi Vada, please don’t put any red chilli in stuffing.
Ingredients:
For Stuffing:
Large Green Chilli ( Bhavnagri Mirch ) – 4
Boiled Potato – 2
Coriander Powder – 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Chat Masala- 1 tsp
Fennel Seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cumin Powder – 1/4 tsp
Oil – 2 Tbsp
Salt to Taste
For Mirchi Vada Batter:
Gram flour/ Besan – 1 cup
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli Powder -1/4 tsp
Baking Soda – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Water As Required
Other Ingredients:
Oil for Frying
Preparation Method:
For Potato Stuffing:
- Peel of the Potato. Heat oil in a Kadhai.
- Add Grated potatoes , turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, chat masala, cumin powder, fennel seeds and salt to taste.
- Mix well and Cook for 3-4 minutes. Switch off the flame.
- Take out the mixture on a plate and let it cool.
For Making Vada:
- Wash and wipe the Chillies, slit lengthwise, and de-seed.
- Fill the Potato filling very well inside the Chilis. Stuff all chillies and keep aside.
- In bowl add Gram Flour, Salt,Turmeric Powder, Red Chili, Baking Soda and water, to make a thick batter.
- Heat the oil in a Kadhai. When oil is heated enough dip the stuffed chilis in batter and deep fry them until golden brown and crisp.
- Place mirchi vada on paper napkin and remove excess oil.
- Serve this Hot Rajasthani Mirchi Vada by sprinkle some chat Masala along with green chutney , Imli ki Chutney and Hot Cup of Ginger Tea.
